After Completion of Endodontic Therapy
Endodontic therapy has now been completed. Depending on your dentist’s request, there may be a permanent or temporary restoration placed. A full coverage restoration may also be considered. Our doctors and staff will speak with you regarding additional treatment needed. You may be directed back to your restorative dentist. A detailed report will be sent to your restorative dentist indicating treatment rendered at our office.
Are There Any Potential Problems After Treatment?
- Post-operative inflammation. Expect to experience mild to moderate irritation after treatment, primarily biting and chewing. This is considered normal and typically resolves after several days.
- Post-operative infections. Infections occasionally occur and may require and office visit for examination.
Home Care Instructions
Your tooth and surrounding gum tissue may be slightly tender for several days following therapy depending on the condition of your tooth. This short term tenderness is normal and is no cause for alarm. We recommend to avoid chewing food on the affected side until your endodontic therapy is completed and your tooth is covered with a protective restoration provided by your restorative dentist. You may continue your regular dental hygiene regimen. Discomfort may be alleviated by taking ibuprofen (Advil), aspirin, or acetaminophen (Tylenol) as directed.
Should you experience discomfort that cannot be controlled with these medications, or should swelling develop, please contact our office immediately.
